The Tornio River, on the border between Sweden and Finland, is undoubtedly one of the most fishy rivers in Finland, especially for salmon in the summer months, so much so that it is considered one of the best European locations. Over 500 km long, it promises incredible specimens, which can reach up to 20 kg!

Arrival at Rovaniemi airport in Finnish Lapland in the afternoon. Transfer by private minibus (about 1h30) to the hamlet of Kukkola, where you will take possession of your mini-apartment. You will be served a typical dinner, during which our guide will show you the program. After dinner, taking advantage of the white night, we will explore the surroundings of the structure, already identifying the first places to fish. Overnight
Kukkola River Cottages:
Kukkola River Cottages is located in Kukkolankoski, Lapland. Kukkola is a hamlet located on the banks of the Tornio river, which marks the border between Sweden and Finland. Here we speak two languages, use two currencies and live in two different time zones! The structure is managed with sympathy by Mr. Risto Kantola, and is equipped with about 30 beds. You will stay in an independent mini-apartment sleeping 2 or 6 located in a wonderful position, a few meters from the Finnish bank of the Tornio river.
Access to the traditional sauna, located in a building adjacent to the cottage, is free (you will have to heat the wood-burning sauna yourself - we will teach you how to do it upon arrival).
After breakfast, we will go to the bank of the Tornio River to start the first day of salmon fishing. The Tornio is the longest river in Lapland, with its 522 km and a basin of over 40 thousand sq km. Fishing is a traditional activity in Val di Tornio, practiced in the same way for centuries. The river is rich in fish throughout the year. In summer, the most prized fish are salmon (caught from 1 June to 14 August) and whitefish (from 15 July to 14 September). Pike, perch and grayling are also found in abundance.
Fishing is done by rowing boat, with two people on each boat. Our guide will show you how to use the boat, will provide you with the equipment if you do not have one (for a surcharge) and will show you the best places for profitable fishing. The first three hours will be guided, after which you can continue on your own.
Lunch will be free (you can easily return to the apartment). In the afternoon we will be able to observe the traditions of fishermen in the adjacent village of Kukkola: you will learn how to fish with a net (called lippo in the local dialect), and you will be able to witness the moment in which the catch of the day is distributed among all the inhabitants of the village, according to an ancient ritual of which we will explain the origins (optional activity, without supplement). Dinner based on grilled whitefish, prepared on the spit in the traditional way, and the possibility of fishing independently during the white night.
After breakfast, you will have the day and the rowing boats at your disposal to try for yourself salmon fishing in the waters of the Tornio river.
Optionally you can have the opportunity to use the barge also for this morning, for a surcharge.
In the evening you can have a typical dinner in the center of Tornio, the largest city in the area, which you can visit freely before returning to the hotel by private vehicle.
After breakfast, an optional experience of pure adrenaline: we will descend the rapids in rafting, aboard a rubber dinghy (minimum 4 participants - optional activity subject to a supplement, min 4 participants). We will descend first from the Finnish side (medium-low difficulty) and then from the Swedish one (medium-high difficulty). The excursion lasts about two hours and takes place in absolute safety with the help of expert guides. In the afternoon, after a snack, you can continue with free fishing. In the evening, we will serve you a typical dinner, after which you can, like every evening, take advantage of the white night to continue fishing.
After breakfast, transfer to Rovaniemi airport in good time, where you will board for the return flight.
