Arrival at Oulu or Rovaniemi airport in Finnish Lapland. Transfer by private minibus (approximately 1h45) to your cottage, where you will take possession of your private mini-apartment. During the transfer we will offer you a typical dinner, during which we will illustrate the program. After dinner, taking advantage of the long days, we will explore the surroundings of the structure, already identifying the first places to fish. The rowing boat will be at your disposal throughout your stay. Every evening, at dusk, there will be the opportunity to observe the Northern Lights from the second half of August onwards. Before this period, the night is still white and does not allow the observation of the aurora.
After breakfast, we will go to the bank of the Tornio river to start the first day of fishing. The Tornio is one of the longest rivers in Lapland, with its 522 km and a basin of over 40 thousand sq km. Fishing is a traditional activity in Val di Tornio, practiced in the same way for centuries. The river is rich in fish throughout the year. In summer, the most prized fish are salmon, but whitefish, pike, grayling, and perch are also found in abundance. Salmon fishing is allowed until August 15th, while that of other species until September 14th, the last day of fishing before the spawning season.
Fishing is done from the shore, by rowing boat (with a maximum of two people for each boat), or from our barge, which is anchored in a strategic position. Our guide will show you how to use the boat and will provide you with the equipment in case you do not have one (for a surcharge). During the morning he will show you the best places for profitable fishing: according to the conditions of the river and the level of flood, these can vary. The first two hours will be guided, after which you can continue independently.
A light lunch is served by the river to allow you to continue fishing. In the afternoon, if you wish, you can observe the traditions of fishermen in the adjacent village of Kukkola: you will learn how to fish with a net (called Lippo in the local dialect) and you will see an almost unique example of fishing culture that has remained intact over the centuries. This is a free optional activity, led by us in Italian. Dinner will be served nearby.
After breakfast, you will have the day, equipment, and rowing boat at your disposal to try salmon fishing yourself in the waters of the Tornio river. A snack will be offered to you at lunchtime.
In the evening you can have a typical dinner. Optionally, we offer you a short guided tour of Tornio, the largest city in the area, at no extra charge.
After breakfast, free morning for fishing, transfer to the airport (1h45), return flight, end of the tour.
